MACCLESFIELD’s reward for Saturday’s first-round win at Walsall is a home tie against Oxford United in the second round of the FA Cup.

Walsall went into Saturday’s game 12th in League One after a six-match unbeaten run while Macc are slipped 10th in the Vanarama National League after going five league games without a win.

But the Silkmen managed to pull off arguably the shock of the round, holding on for a 1-0 win after John McCombe’s 23rd-minute opener. The Macc will now be hopeful of repeating the feat against Oxford, who are in the bottom half of League One after coming up last season.

There will be a Manchester derby in the second round if CURZON ASHTON and BURY each manage to win their replay. The Nash needed a late Adam Morgan goal to claim a 1-1 draw at Westfields on Saturday and they will welcome the ninth-tier side to the Tameside Stadium for Monday’s replay.

The winners will have a home tie against Bury or AFC Wimbledon after the League One rivals played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Hallam Hope hit a quickfire brace for the Shakers in the first half, only for the Dons to fight back after the break through goals by Lyle Taylor and ex-Bury loanee Tom Elliott.

ROCHDALE looked destined to suffer a shock on Saturday as they trailed 1-0 at non-league Maidstone but Callum Camps fired in a last-gasp free-kick to salvage a replay. The winners of the replay will be away to Carlisle, who are still unbeaten in League Two.

Liam Trotter’s goal gave BOLTON a 1-0 win at home to Grimsby and Wanderers have a tough tie in the second round as they will host Sheffield United, another side looking to win promotion from League One.

OLDHAM are also through after winning 2-1 against a Doncaster side which is third in League Two. Ryan Flynn and Billy McKay scored either side of the break for Latics, before the visitors converted a last-minute penalty.

In the second round they are away to Vanarama National League side Lincoln City, who won 2-1 at home to ALTRINCHAM.

The Robins’ National North League rivals STOCKPORT COUNTY also faced opposition in the league above and despite taking the lead against Woking, the visitors fought back to ultimately win 4-2.
